The Challenge
Holland & Holland needed to restore heating to their factory after it locked out, remove the unwanted water filters, make their LPG equipment compliant, repair their brazier and repair and reinstate their traditional, artisan gas torches that are a vital element to creating their exquisite bespoke products.
Customer statement – Alaster Tonge of Holland & Holland said;
“We hand craft our guns in a Factory we built for the purpose in the late 1890s. Having such a wonderful old building can complicate finding good services, like quotations that include drilling holes through half metre thick external walls.
In this instance, we approached Solitaire for a combination of works. We wanted a full re-fit to best current compliance for our gas installations at our shooting range workshop where we calibrate the aim of rifle barrels. We had a malfunctioning boiler as the weather got cold, and the brazing and tinning gas torches we had been using for nearly 100 years to make gun barrels could no longer be reconditioned again.
Solitaire reacted quickly to our urgent needs and had the boilers pumping again at first visit. More importantly, they undertook to research replacement torches for the barrel shop. They found and contacted manufacturers, visited us and collated our specifications and gained understanding of how we use the torches.
Once we had agreed to the suggested replacements it was just a case of waiting for them to be made and installed.
Solitaire’s engineers fitted the new piping and torches and waited for several tests to be carried out. The system was fine tuned for use, with ergonomic taps for controlling the flow of compressed air and gas.
Apart from prompt and very good service, I was impressed by the way the task had been so fully understood. The solutions did not only work well, they made our manufacturing process easier.”
The Solitaire Solution
Solitaire Plumbing and Heating were able to restore their boilers to working and reliable order keeping their craftspeople able to do their jobs. We capped off their water filters, upgraded the factory’s LPG pipework, regulators and bottles in their apprentice room.
We repaired and reinstated their artisan brazier having been out of action for 60 years and upgraded pipework and fittings to ensure their precision gas torches were compliant to modern standards.
In essence, it has been a collaboration which has meant that the fine, long standing traditional work tools of Holland & Holland are able to supply their exquisite heirlooms to Holland & Holland’s prestigious clientele for years to come.
